SCIENTIFIC LECTURES FOR EVERYONE
Past Lectures
Dutch Science Talks is an educational project initiated by Nuffic Neso Russia and the Dutch Embassy in Moscow in 2015. We planned this project as a way to introduce Russian students to the current Dutch research and latest findings in the various fields, from neurosciences to music theory and urbanism.
Since 2015, we organised 41 lectures:
Jan Brokken, a writer, presented his book about a Dutch consul Jan Zwartendijk, who saved thousands of Jews during WWII, in the Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow on 16 Oct 2019.
Prof. Derk Loorbach gave an open lecture at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow on 17 Sep 2019 and a lecture for the Master's student of the Gubkin University of Oil and Gas on 18 Sep 2019.
Prof. Derk Loorbach from Erasmus University Rotterdam delivered an open lecture at the European University in Saint-Petersburg on 16 Sep 2019.

Punishing International Crimes at International Criminal Courts and Tribunals. Three lectures in Moscow and St. Petersburg
Barbora Hola works as a Senior Researcher at The Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR) and as an Associate Professor at the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology at VU University of Amsterdam. She has an interdisciplinary focus and studies transitional justice after atrocities, in particular (international) criminal trials, sentencing of international crimes, rehabilitation of war criminals and life after trial at international criminal tribunals. Besides her research and teaching in the Master's programme International Crimes and Criminology at VU Amsterdam, Barbora is a co-director of the Center for International Criminal Justice, a knowledge center dedicated to interdisciplinary studies of mass atrocity crimes and international criminal justice.

Barbora Hola gave a lecture in Moscow on 27 Nov 2018 and two lectures in St. Petersburg on 28 and 29 Nov 2018.
The Reduction of Waste During Food/feed Processing and the Re-use of Rest Products in the Agro-food Sector

Robert van Otterdijk is a food technologist, graduated in 1985 from the Wageningen Agricultural University in The Netherlands. He worked first in the dutch food industry in quality assurance and r&d, after which he joined the Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN in 1989, on projects on post-harvest technology and food technology in Ghana (West Africa) and Tonga (South Pacific). Since 2017 he is based in FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia in Budapest - Hungary. His main responsibilities are agroindustrial development and the 'Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction'- Save Food.

Arnold Tukker is since 1 October 2013 the Professor of Industrial Ecology and Scientific director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) at Leiden University for 70% of his time. He retains a 30% position as senior researcher at TNO, a large Dutch not for profit research organisations. Arnold set up prominent EU projects in the field of sustainable product design (SusProNet) and sustainable consumption and production (SCORE!) and was core member of the 10 Million Euro Dutch Knowledge Network on Sustainable System Innovations.

Antimicrobial Resistance: Who Should Care?
Professor Jaap Wagenaar was trained as veterinarian and completed his PhD study at Utrecht University and the USDA-National Animal Diseases Center, Ames, IA, US. In 1996 he started his research group at the Central Veterinary Institute (now: Wageningen Bioveterinary Research) in Lelystad, the Netherlands, on food safety and in particular on Campylobacter

Dr. M.Sc. Engineering Marian Stuiver is senior researcher at Wageningen University and Research Centre in the Netherlands. She has ample experience in the social sciences and projects in Europe, Latin America and Africa. She has worked on projects covering a wide range of topics e.g. design, sustainability, water, energy and food. Examples are EU integral projects Mermaid, Maspnose, Building with Nature and Knowledge for Climate in collaboration with partners from UK, Denmark, Greece, Italy and Germany.

The screening and discussion took place on the 10 Oct 2018 at the Library for Foreign Literature.
Dr. Nicolaas Schrijver is Professor of Public International Law, Leiden University. Since September 2017 he also serves on the Council of State of the Netherlands, which is the principal legal advisory body of the government and parliament. Previously, he was the Academic Director of the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies as well as a Senator and Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. Currently, Nicolaas Schrijver also serves as the President of the Institut de Droit international, one of the most renowned institutes in the field of international law.
